Infracapital agrees the sale of Swedish Utility FEAB

Infracapital, the Infrastructure equity investment arm of M&G Plc, has agreed the sale of its 100% stake in Falbygdens Energi AB (“FEAB”) to Nordion Energi AB. FEAB is an integrated, high-quality provider of core infrastructure including electricity distribution, district heating and fibre in Falköping, Sweden. 

Infracapital acquired the business from the municipality of Gothenburg in 2013, and has since delivered numerous successful initiatives to establish the business as a standalone entity, develop its commercial focus and improve sustainability: 

  • Creation of an independent Board, governance & reporting structures and systems to allow the company to function independently
  • Significant enhancements to the company’s environmental policies and impact
    - District heating system transitioned to 100% renewable energy and was marked a ‘good environmental choice’ by the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation
    - Continuous improvements on existing assets including installation of NOx filters at the Combined Heat and Power plant reducing nitrogen oxide emissions by 50% 
  • Pivoted towards a more commercial strategy, achieving customer growth across all areas of the business including quadrupling the number of fibre customers during ownership
  • Continual operational improvements, with a primary focus on Health & Safety, customer service and operational excellence
    - Consistent above peer performance and reliability of the electricity distribution network
